Gone but not forgotten- Alexio Kawara to stage a Tuku tribute show at Montclair hotel
“Pangu pese ndasakura ndazunza, ndima yese ndasakura ndazunza. Zvasariremi kufuga nekuwarira…” Ndima Ndapedza.
For years golfers and music revellers have come together to listen to the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi belching in his husky voice and signature cough. This year however, will be different as the maestro himself will not be there to charm the crowd.
In a bid to honour the late Oliver Mtukudzi for his contribution to the local music, Alexio Kawara will stage a tribute show at Montclair Hotel and Casino in Nyanga.
Mtukudzi used to perform at Montclair every June and organisers of the event have decided to have a tribute concert and golf tournament for the musician.
Kawara is working with the late musician’s Black Spirits outfit and they will do renditions of his popular songs at the hotel on June 22.
Alexio Kawara made his debut at the annual golf tournament in 2017 and has performed with Mtukudzi at the concert since then. The ‘Shaina’ hit maker has been invited to stage the commemorative show with the Black Spirits who are keeping the legacy of Tuku alive.
He will also share the stage with Mbeu (represented Tuku at the Capetown Jazz Festival) and Tocky Vibes, who was viewed with utmost respect by the late maestro.
Although Tuku is no longer with us, his music will still be a part of many festivities. Tuku music lives on.
