Lovemore Majaivana deserves more
Lovemore ‘Majaivana’ Tshuma (born 1954), commonly known as Lovemore Majaivana is a Zimbabwean musician, arguably the most popular Ndebele singer, and by far the most prominent to have come out of Bulawayo. He earned the stage name ‘Majaivana’ (which means good dancer) for his exceptional dancing.
‘Umoya Wami’ hitmaker Lovemore Majaivana, deserves more from music promoters in particular and from recording companies to be specific, he is a living music legend. His music was up there along with Leonard Dembo and James Chimombe's music.
During his time there was Gramma Records which paid huge royalties that saw Dembo bought a house in Belvedere and Chimombe bought one in Craneborne, but Majaivana could not benefit anything from such deals.
He was not celebrated or honoured back home. We have honoured a lot of musicians but he was never celebrated or honoured. I think he is the best musician to come out from Matabeleland.
National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA), it’s not too late to do the right thing. Majaivana left Zimbabwe for the United States, at the turn of the millennium and has never set foot in the country.
