The Nation Buries the Legend Oliver Mtukudzi But Not His Legacy, It Lives On
Zimbabwean legendary singer and national hero Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi was laid to rest at his home in Madziwa per his family's request.
Oliver Mtukudzi passed away on Wednesday at the age of 66 and was unanimously declared a national hero, however, his family requested that he be buried in the same land as his fathers.
Even though Tuku was not buried at the National Shrine his farewell was nothing short of a hero's farewell, in fact, it might be the greatest farewell the nation has ever seen.
A musical concert was held to honour the legend and almost every big artist was there to grace the stage paying their respects. The stadium was filled to capacity as thousands of fans came to pay their respects. Tuku's coffin was taken on a funeral procession through the stadium.
Mtukudzi's body was taken to his rural home in Madziva (near Bindura) where thousands of Zimbabweans followed including the political and social elites. Tuku's body was driven in a Nyaradzo hearse by the owner and CEO himself.
The nation buried a legend but his legacy lives on and his voice will forever echo in our playlists. Rest In Peace Oliver Mtukudzi
