‘Finding Temeraire’ is an engaging piece of theatre written by Stanley Makuwe and directed by filmmaker Agnieska Piotrowska from England with assistance from local theatre director Eunice Tava. The play, which combines some of the most seasoned and talented production crew and cast, initially premiered at this year’s Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA). It saw another run at the hub of arts performances, Theatre in the Park from the 6th to the 8th of June.

The two-handers play powerfully unravels human relationships at the backdrop of an old mining town in Zimbabwe. It features Edmore Sandifolo well known for his role as ‘Chabvonga’ on popular ZBC series Tiriparwendo and talented actress Charmaine Mujeri. It is a story about love, revenge and forgiveness. ‘Finding Temeraire’ gives an account of a woman who was emotionally and sexually hurt and tortured, through a series of flashbacks. In the present world, she expresses and vents her bitterness and pain toward the perpetrator of her plight. At the end of the play, she comes to a point of ‘forgiveness’ and love again but the question is whether or not she is at peace.
